Why Campsites in France are Perfect for Families?

Posted in Holiday Travel on January 10th, 2012 by Admin ISK — Be the first to comment!

There are many who choose France for Camping Holidays. However, when going with family, it is important to take extra precaution. Unlike locals, tourists will not know the ins and outs of the place, leave alone their safety with language barriers. When with elders, children or women, safety and security is the prime concern. So, instead of managing accommodation and sight seeing, or outdoor activities individually in an unknown country, it is ideal to go with registered tourist providers. In that line, choosing campsites are perfect for families.

This is not all. There are several other advantages of camping in France, including wine, for elders. Yes, wine is famous here and anyone who head here, would know about this. Listed below are other advantages of choosing campsites in France.

Camping season starts around May and extends to September. This is exactly when holidays begin for kids. So, opting for campsites in France makes it easier and interesting.

France has a range of outdoor activities from ferrying, to hiking, tourist attractions, to beaches and what not. With so many activities, places to visit and exotic scenery throughout, it keeps children occupied. Kids are known to be hyperactive and get others around tensed when idle. With numerous options, it is the right place to head out with kids.

Since kids mingle easily, with festive frenzy around, there are ways to meet new people and participate in outdoor events. Story telling around campfire, is just one of the many such events organized by campsites for families.

France is also known for rich heritage and culture, surrounded with medieval structures and architecture. This is not only a different experience for the kids, it is enlightening and intriguing for them. They get to learn about this culture, that is not often found in other countries. Also, the structures here are unique, including the standing stones near Carnac.

The campsites are classified as one star, two star, three star and four star campsites. Depending on the budget, number of members, amenities required and other factors, families can choose between the available options. With over a nine thousand registered campsites, one can never run out of sites even when registering around holiday season. However, it is good be prepared and have all arrangements planned ahead, to make the most off the camping holidays here.

It is ideal to have the contact numbers the campsites handy at all times. Also, having contact details of relevant contact persons of the campsite administration along with other public authorities, can help during an issues when outdoors.

Tips for First Time Cruisers

Posted in Holiday Travel on December 2nd, 2011 by Admin ISK — Be the first to comment!

With endless possibilities for destinations and activities, it is easy to see why cruises have become so attractive for those on holiday. While I often hear of people going on cruises as couples, there are plenty of options for families, as well. I know that being a first-time cruiser can seem overwhelming. So, during the planning and preparation stages, it is important to follow a few tips to stay organized and ensure you have an enjoyable holiday.

Pick the Right Cruise

I think this is one of the most important factors when preparing for your next holiday. You need to choose the cruise that reflects your interests and those of your travelling companions. Will you be going solo, cruising with your spouse or travelling with young children? Are you the laidback type or do you prefer a livelier atmosphere? These are a few questions to ask yourself before planning a cruise.

Cruises for Couples: Island, Seadream Yacht Club and Celebrity Cruises are geared towards those who desire a relaxing and peaceful environment. Some of the amenities on the ships include romantic restaurants, spa treatments and shopping.  If you and your spouse are interested in thrills and adventure, I recommend one of the larger cruise ships. Carnival and Norwegian Cruise Lines offer exciting destinations and plenty of on-board activities to keep you busy.  While each cruise ship has different facilities, some of the ships have pools, gyms, nightclubs, casinos, comedy clubs and rock climbing walls.

Cruises for Families: If you are travelling with your family, it is best to find a cruise that offers a family-friendly atmosphere. I know it would be frustrating to embark on your holiday, only to discover the cruise you selected has no activities for children. Do your own research before selecting a cruise, but I do recommend a few cruise lines for enjoyable family holidays. On a Disney cruise, families will find plenty of fun activities, children’s play areas, swimming pools, cinemas, live shows and deck parties. Princess Cruises offer both adult and family-friendly activities. Don’t forget to ask the cruise line if they offer babysitting services, so you and your spouse can enjoy some relaxing alone time, as well.

Planning Your Cruise

Once you have found a few cruise lines that offer the atmosphere you want, now it is time to select where you will go and for how long. Three day cruises are perfect for first time cruisers to enjoy a peaceful weekend holiday. Fourteen night cruises are for the adventurous and those who want to travel to distant destinations. I recommend finding a port close to home for your first cruise, so you can enjoy the benefits of no-fly cruises. With a no-fly cruise, you won’t have to deal with luggage restrictions and flight delays.

Pack the Right Items

I find that a lot of new cruisers tend to over pack. You will almost certainly end up purchasing a few souvenirs during the cruise, so you will need some extra room in your luggage for the journey home. Pack a swimsuit or two for each member of the family, plus a few casual outfits, pyjamas and one or two dressier outfits.  Don’t forget necessary documents, medications, sanitizing lotions, nappies, sunscreen, sunglass, hats and shoes. If you are new to cruising, I recommend packing a bag of ginger candies for motion sickness.

Ask About Fees and Budget Wisely

While most cruises offer all-inclusive packages with meals and activities included, some extra charges may come up. Ask about babysitting fees, charges for using the phone, and if any of the activities require extra fees. Most cruise lines operate on a no cash policy, and you are given a credit card to use on the ship. The fees can really add up if you don’t pay attention to how much you are using the card. I recommend keeping a planner in your cabin and taking note of every time you use your card during the cruise.

Cruises are an exceptional way to enjoy your next holiday. I know you will be satisfied when you select the cruise that reflects your interests. From leisurely cruises to ones that are action-packed, there truly is something for everyone.

Cruising From Southampton to the World

Posted in Holiday Travel on November 29th, 2011 by Admin ISK — Be the first to comment!

Cruising from Southampton aboard Royal Caribbean Cruises was a life-long dream that was surpassed in every way. Southampton, the launching port of the Mayflower and the Titanic, was the perfect tee-off to France, Spain, Italy, Ireland, Portugal or the Canary Islands. I had gone to France in the past so I passed up on the 3-night cruise which would have brought me back to romantic Paris. I’ve never been to Ireland and found it darkly mysterious, the 12-night Scandinavian and Russian tour was appealing in its novelty, the 14-night Mediterranean cruise which would take me to France, Italy and Portugal was absolutely tempting, but at the end-of-the-day, I opted for the 12-night Spain and Canary Islands Cruise with various ports of call like the iconic Vigo, Spain and Lisbon, Portugal. I was definitely going to Europe in style!

I loved the fact that there were Cruise tours where the cruise experience is augmented by an equally memorable land tour. You imbibe local flavor, history and breathe in the scenery from the port of call and beyond.

Heavenly Onboard Experience

Whatever ideas you have about a cruise as a unique once in a lifetime experience are all true – if you are aboard one of Royal Caribbean Cruises. Hardly had we left Southampton when I was faced with so many choices, all designed to keep me entertained, excited and dining on delicious food from the many restaurants aboard. I am passionate about food and I was tremendously happy to know that 5-course gourmet meals at the main dining hall were included in the ticket price. There are other options for all tastes and preferences.

The fun didn’t seem to stop with entertainment and shows going on almost round-the-clock.  I’ve read on their site that “cruising is more than a vacation – an experience like none other” but was not prepared for the value for money I got. I indulged myself at the spa and fitness center, enjoyed some dancing and tried my hand at the casino tables. The energy of those who were into the ship’s tournaments and other athletic activities was infectious but truth be told, I loved the freedom of having the choice to be by myself or mingle with a whole lot of interesting people.

Cruising the Med

Spain was sunny with passionate people, bustling cities and laidback countryside. In a way, it was almost like the Italy I knew. I loved the food and wine – spirited, heady and utterly delicious! You can opt to take excursions or laze around in the beach.

If you love the beach, then the Canary Islands just off Africa is one place you would never wish to leave. From spectacular sun-drenched beaches to riding a camel through the dunes and dolphin-watching, these islands have so much to offer the nature-lover.

Portugal and Italy bring you back to a beautiful past with its culture and architecture. In Italy I didn’t miss the opportunity to visit Pisa, Rome, Venice, Rome, Florence and the Bridge of sighs.

I brought home more that photos of me having it all. I lived life and came back all the more refreshed. It simply is an experience to be repeated.

Speciality Foods to Try on Your French Holidays

Posted in Holiday Travel on November 29th, 2011 by Admin ISK — Be the first to comment!

For many people, one of the most enjoyable thing about French holidays is savouring local delicacies which are typical of the region they are visiting. Fragrant cheeses, crusty bread and local wine are some favourite treats which I always enjoy during my holidays to France, however I also enjoy dining in different restaurants and trying dishes which are cooked in the traditional way by locally born chefs.

I have been taking holidays to France for some years now, so have slowly managed to grasp the local lingo, and choosing items from menus which have no English translation doesn’t phase me, yet I understand that many people find themselves ordering “blind” because they can’t work out what things are. More than once, I have seen people who are obviously tourists, ordering something by pointing at the menu, and then being horrified when they are served a plate of offal or unshelled prawns.

To help those of you who are going on Holiday in France, but aren’t sure about what to order, I’ve made a list of some of the top speciality dishes to try during your vacation.

Escargot

Escargot is the French word for snails, which are a classic starter dish served throughout France. While you may feel a little wary about ordering a plate of snails, I highly recommend that you order at least one portion (share them with your companions, if it is the first time!) during your French holidays. Once you get over the initial thoughts of snails being unappetising, you’ll find that the rich garlic, butter sauce makes them very palatable, and you may even become a fan. By the way – Escargot aren’t slimy, they have a slightly chewy texture, not unlike chicken.

Moules Frites

If chomping on land snails is too far from your comfort zone, discover one of France’s favourite fast foods. Moules Frites are mussels in the shell, steamed in a fragrant stock of wine, garlic, parsley and shallot, and served with a side order of golden French fries. This is a wonderful way to experience French seafood at its best, and is particularly well known in the Brittany region.

Cassoulet

Originating from the South of France, Cassoulet is a type of stew made by slowly cooking white beans, and a selection of meats. Different regions of France, and even individual chefs each have their own recipe for Cassoulet, but most include sausages, pork fat, duck or goose, and sometimes mutton. Although Cassoulet is sold in tins, in most French supermarkets, I recommend that you find a good restaurant and sample a home-made version – the difference in flavour and texture is significant.

La Salade Truffé

If you see the magical words “La Salade Truffé” written on a restaurant menu during your French holidays, be sure to order a dish immediately. Truffle salad showcases perfectly, the delicate and rare flavour of the fascinating truffle, and is wonderful as a side dish or starter. Truffles are notoriously hard to find, so dishes which include them may be pricy, but it is an experience you won’t forget!

Holidays In Italy

Posted in Holiday Travel on November 29th, 2011 by Admin ISK — Be the first to comment!

Think sunshine, passion and culture and holidays in Italy come to mind. My husband and I had been to Italy years before but couldn’t have our fill. Our first jaunt only lasted three days with a lot of that devoted to land travel. This time we opted to stay longer, thanks to the value accommodation offered by Eurocamp at various sites all over Italy. This time we had our cake and able to eat it too! We’ve heard that camping offers a lot of surprises and this time we vowed to explore a little bit more and imbibe the Italian way of life.

The Many Faces of Italy

If you are anything like me, you go on a holiday seeking tranquility. Italy has many spectacular lakeside views and quaint towns you will love to discover. Eurocamp has many parcs along the great Italian Lakes like lake Garda. If you prefer watersports, spa amenities or romantic evenings along lakeside beaches, this is the trip to take.

Consider Tuscany if you want to soak in the Italian way of life. This famous wine country boasts not just a number of wineries where you can sample and sniff different kinds and grades of wine but also miles and miles of olive groves. I’ve visited Tuscany once before and can still remember the robust and tasty pasta tossed with pesto, olive oil, sun-dried tomatoes, pancetta and pitted olives. Must sees are Florence with its old world grandeur, stylish leather goods and priceless art collections. Take a break and witness the leaning tower of Pisa before it leans for the last time and visit the coliseum and art galleries of Rome that house Da Vinci and Michaelangelo masterpieces. A trip to Italy won’t be complete without visiting Venice – go ahead and enjoy the gondola ride amidst its faded elegance.

Eurocamp: Fun and Convenience for the Utimate Holiday

Eurocamp offers various accommodation types in its self-catering parcs. In fact you can enjoy your holiday because you worry about absolutely nothing. All conveniences are within reach, yet you can enjoy nature’s unadulterated landscapes and seascapes. While on holiday in Italy, you can choose to fill up every minute with what the parc has to offer or turn off your laptop, relax and rejuvenate. Italy is in every way a treat  – a holiday, whether in a country, lakeside, mountain or central Rome enriches your palate and stimulates your senses. A Eurocamp parc holiday turns that experience into an unforgettable one.

Cheap Holiday Without Hassle

Posted in Holiday Rental on May 3rd, 2010 by admin — Be the first to comment!

One of the first things families consider when they start planning their holiday is the budget. While everyone wants to do it all and have a great time, unfortunately there are only so many dollars that can go into the trip. The key to getting everything you want for your trip is making those dollars go further. A cheap holiday can often be accomplished by doing a little research from the comfort of your own home.

Thanks to the internet, we can now compare airfare, car rentals, hotel rates and even attraction ticket prices online in just a few clicks on the home computer. This also has made the companies offering travel get into competition to have the lowest price, and with a little research youll find a lot of bargain savings.

When you first look for a website to browse for your vacation reservation, make sure to go to a reputable site. Not everyone who sends you an e-mail and has a webpage really is a business with good practices. The better-known reputable sites are ones such as http://Expedia.com, http://Traveocity.com, and http://Orbitz.com. These have all been in business for some time and have a proven track record.

You will want to go site to site and compare the price for the travel reservations you are looking to purchase. You can choose if you just need one service, such as airline tickets or hotel rooms, or if you need a combination of these items. If you are going to need more than one service, you may want to bundle them together in your search. Often there will be additional savings for booking multiple items.

When you are purchasing airfare, be careful before you buy. There are a few things to make sure you know before you hand out your credit card number. First, check for any restrictions on the ticket. Some are non-refundable, and while they are more affordable, if you are worried about possible changes in your schedule, it may be better to pay for a more expensive ticket. Also, the first price you may see on a ticket may seem too low to be true. Make sure it has all the appropriate taxes and fees included before you get too excited. If they have not been added in, they may lump an additional $50 – $100 on the price, per ticket.

Once you have made your selection, make sure to print out all the documentation that shows your purchase has been made. This may be useful down the road if there are any problems with your purchase.

If you are not a fan of online shopping and you are worried about all of your reservations being put into the system correctly, once you have booked, double check. A few days after your purchase pull out the papers you printed as a record of your order. They should have confirmation numbers. You can call the hotel or car rental location, give them that confirmation number and make sure they have everything correct.

Holiday’s Best Selling Toys

Posted in Holiday Travel on April 29th, 2010 by admin — Be the first to comment!

This holiday season has sent parents in droves to find the ideal gifts for their sons and daughters. So, what is it that your children are dying to have?

One of the biggest sellers this year is anything to do with Stars Wars! With the release of the final prequel on DVD, children are prepared to fight the dark side with lightsabers, action figures, and Darth Vadar voice changing masks. For boys and girls alike, this is a guaranteed pleaser.

Also making an appearance on Christmas lists this year are the dolls and accessories from the movie, “Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus”. Mattel Entertainment manages to perfectly time the release of their Barbie series movies every year to play in perfectly with the holiday season. This year has been no different. Little girls everywhere will be waking up to Princess Annika and her flying horse.

For younger children, Fisher-Price’s Tumble Time Tigger is a must for this holiday season. This loveable Winnie the Pooh character does cartwheels, stands on his head, and dances. He is also sound-activated, so he will keep going with your child’s laughter and clapping.

BRATZ dolls are also big with girls this year. Not only do they have the regular line, but the secondary line of BRATZ Big Babyz is a new twist on an already popular trend. However, some parents are resisting their daughters’ pleas, as these dolls are known for their scantily designed clothes and controversial trade name.

If you remember the hysteria over Tickle Me Elmo a few years ago (like anyone can forget), then it should be of no surprise that Elmo is big again this year with the “Shout!” Dancing Elmo Doll. This adorable Sesame Street native is getting kids moving with his rendition of “Make Me Wanna Shout!” and a dance to go along with it. No one can resist such a cute little monster!

Aquadoodle is another ingenious gift idea by Spinmasters. This is a large pad that allows children to draw with a “magic” pen filled with water, which disappears in a short time. Therefore, there is no mess to clean up and this pen will not end up decorating your walls.

VTech V.Smile TV Learning System is an answer to the video game craze, but is targeted more toward education. These games teach children from ages 3-7 math skills, English, reasoning, and science and plug directly into your television for convenience.

The various LeapFrog Learning products are also an option for making learning fun. With several choices to focus on different age levels and information categories, you can find exactly what will be most beneficial for your child. You can choose laptops, reading systems, or math games to give the gift of knowledge this holiday season.

Christmas Decorating That Will Make Your Holidays Special

Posted in Holiday Vacation on April 29th, 2010 by admin — Be the first to comment!

If you are like the majority of people, you do not have a lot of time during the holidays to make special decorations. You can make your holiday decorating quick and easy and create a festive atmosphere in your home without spending a lot of time and money, leaving you more time to enjoy the holiday season with your family. Here are some holiday decorating tips that are free and inexpensive that will require very little effort:

Tableware:

Use festive tableware for every meal during the month of December. Search your cupboards and drawers and get out anything that looks remotely festive. You can also shop discount and one-dollar stores and find many items for the holidays that you can use every year. You can add to your collection of holiday tableware each year and soon you will have many types of dishes that will make your holidays special.

Bows:

Try decorating with bows. Ribbons tied around chairs, plants, candlesticks, drapes, stairs and doorknobs make wonderful decorations. Place bows and ribbons in many locations throughout your home for a festive look that is quick and easy. The bows and ribbons do not have to be green and red. You can try many colors or match the bows and ribbons to the colors you have in your home. Choose ribbons that you can reuse each year. When the holidays are over, pack the bows and ribbons carefully so that you can use them again and again.

Wreaths:

Put a holiday wreath on every door in your home. Use real pine, holly, and grapevine and decorate with berries, fruit and pinecones. If you purchase artificial wreaths you will be able to use them year after year.

Candles:

Arrange many candles around the room and turn the lights off during holiday meals. You will create a special, festive atmosphere that will be remembered and anticipated by your family each year. A fire in the fireplace each night will add to the holiday spirit. You can also arrange candles in your bathroom and around your bathtub. Watch small children carefully when you decorate with candles.

Holiday decorating does not have to be difficult or expensive. Simple decorations throughout your house will make fond memories for your family and will be anticipated year after year. Make sure to put out plenty of scented potpourri and scented oils in various locations throughout your home.
